Bawomataluo Site
The Bawomataluo Site is a village settlement in the Bawomataluo Village in the Teluk Dalam province of the South Nias Regency of Indonesia. It is a cultural heritage site with megalithic culture practiced in the housing settlement which is reportedly of the 18th century. Bawomataluo meaning "Sun Hill" is one of the well known villages in south Nias in north Sumatra. The settlement integrates with the past rituals of megalithic period and represents the "livelihood of people in the past that is rich in megalithic tradition and religious rituals."〔
In view of the original traditional Architectural features of the settlement and its environment representing the megalithic monuments tradition, the site was proposed for inscription under the UNESCO List of Heritage Sites as a cultural site under Criterion (i), (iv), and (vi). UNESCO has listed the site under the Tentative List, in 2009, final approval is awaited.〔
==Location==
Bawomataluo settlement is located on a hill on a level ground about above mean sea level and is accessed by concrete steps. The hill is oriented in the southeast to the northwest direction. It covers an area of about . It is from the sea coast and is above the height of any Tsunami effect. The settlement is planned to fit the topography of the land and has water source of a water spring with adequate supplies. It is bounded between "valleys and deep gorges".〔 The settlement is away from Teluk Dalam port, a sub-district of the Nias, and public transport facilty is available to reach the site.〔
